Big Trout Lake Monster: case closed?

I saw articles about this Trout Lake monster popping up on Facebook last week. It’s the body of a creature that washed up on shores of the community of Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug on Big Trout Lake in Northern Ontario. The elders of the community said it was a mythical creature known as the ‘the ugly one’. Many of the commenters on the Globe and Mail and CTV.ca articles guessed that it was some waterlogged rodent. Darren Naish, who solved the mystery of both the Montauk and Conakry Monsters (or at least provided some excellent analysis of it), has done the same on his blog Tetrpod Zoology. Click here to check out what he thinks the Big Trout Lake Monster is. Unfortunately, the ‘monster’ has since disappeared so we have no more to go on than a couple photos.

  1. good follow up work Jer!

  2. This is the carcass of a dead otter. The fur has disappeared from its head as it was in the process of decomposition.
