Advice from Anahim Lake

Knowing that I love rural newspapers, a great friend of mine sent me a couple from the west coast of BC. They’re chock full view points that don’t get into fancy city newspapers, weird stories and, best of all, letters to the editor. On the left, is an excerpt from the Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down section of the Anahim/Nimpo Lake Messenger. Anahim Lake, for non-hockey fans, is the birth place of Canadiens unestablished netminder Carey Price. You can check out a photo tour of it at Actualite magazine. I like this little bit of advice because it’s good not only for neighbours. While working in the ivory tower of academia, I hear people talking about disliking other people’s ideas because they hate the way they write or find them to be a snob. Good ideas can come from anywhere: people who write poorly, people who are jerks, bad neighbours and even politicians of different political stripes. Thumbs up–even though the graphic beside the quote is a thumbs down, not sure what that’s all about–to this person from Anahim/Nimpo Lake who recognizes that a good idea is a good idea no matter where it comes from.

thumbs up Jer. (but make sure you control your dogs–it’s not the responsibility of the RCMP)
