Ladies of The Brooklyn
Filed under: Create by Joseph on Tuesday, 7th September 2010 at 2:41 pmI just came across this series of 8mm films that a group of female friends in Brooklyn (yes, THE Brooklyn) have been recording in a the last little while in an apartment under the name, Girl Crisis. It’s all one take shots, recorded mostly accapella by a rotating cast of band babes in NYC. I may have a sarcastic tone, but I don’t mean to come off that way. I think I love these videos… a lot. I’m at least in-like with them a lot. The group features ladies from Apache Beat, Au Revoir Simone, Acrylics, Amazing Baby, Spider (my personal fave) and Chairlift. The latter’s Caroline Polechek spearheaded the project with Elizabeth Harper from Class Actress and This Frontier Needs Heroes‘ Jessica Lauretti who also appear in the films/songs. These names might not mean much to people outside of the Brooklyn music scene (geez, people, geez), but they all have amazing voices and other, um, qualities. Just check out their rendition of Sade’s “Smooth Operator” below:
Girl Crisis has some rules about their get togethers. They won’t play live ever, they won’t officially release these songs and most important, NO BOYS ALOUD!!! Yay, girls. I hate stinky boys and their over-sexualized minds and dirty hands and faces and smelly shoes and ripped jeans. Well, fine. Keep pumping these videos out and I might have a strict no boy policy. What does that mean? Who cares, here’s “Tell It To My Heart” by Taylor Dane:
